How To open mxd file in any computer without creating folders in ArcGIS
What is MXD?
MXD (Map Exchange Document) is file format in which the maps created from ArcGIS software can be stored. MXD not only stores maps but also stores the symbology, layout, hyperlinks, toolbars added, etc. at the time of saving the map document.
User will work on the data in their own working folder and they will maintain a common folder to save final data and save mxd. But, when you submit the folder (with shapefiles) and mxd to client/customer, they will fail to open the data with symbology and will get errors. So, users need to create a final data in such manner that the data can be open in any computed. To do so, please follow the below steps;
After finalizing the data and you are about to submit the data, please go to Go to File-> Map Document Properties.
Provide Title , Summary , Description , Author , Credits , Tags , Hyperlink Base (if any images are linked with the data).
Then, finally click check box on for store relative pathnames to data sources and click on Apply and OK.
See the video and follow the procedure in Arcgis.
